How to Unlock Mac with Apple Watch

One Apple Watch feature that has made a huge difference in my life is its ability to unlock my Mac. Since I prefer to use low-profile mechanical keyboards while working on my desk and my Mac remains in clamshell mode, having an Apple Watch to unlock it without entering a password is a boon. Here’s how to unlock your Mac with Apple Watch.
Unlock Mac with Apple Watch
Before we begin with the steps, there are a few conditions you need to meet to use this feature:
- Both your Apple Watch and iPhone have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.
- You are using the same Apple Account on both devices.
- You are using a passcode on the Apple Watch.
Ensure your devices meet these conditions and follow the steps to unlock your Mac with Apple Watch:
1. Use the Apple Menu to open the System Settings app.

2. Scroll down to the Touch ID & Passcode settings and click to open it.

3. Turn off the toggle under the Apple Watch subheading and confirm the operation with your Mac’s password.

That’s it. When you wake up your Mac, your Apple Watch will automatically unlock it. Note that if you shut down your Mac, you must enter the Mac’s password once to unlock it before this feature becomes active again.
Approve password and payment requests with Apple Watch
Another advantage of this feature is that it allows you to use your Apple Watch to authenticate app logins, payments, and other tasks. When initiating a login, you will receive a prompt on your Apple Watch.
Simply double-click the side button to authenticate the action, eliminating the need to enter your password on your Mac.I hope this quick guide was useful. You can click here to learn how to change your Apple Watch Ringtone.
