The Big Problem with iOS 18 Lock Screen Customization
I love the iPhone Lock Screen customization tools that Apple offers us. With the iOS 18 update, we can even change the Lock Screen controls from camera and flashlight to anything else.
But there’s a big problem with Lock Screen customization on iPhone. The issue here is that all the changes you make to your iPhone Lock Screen are tied to the wallpaper. If you add a new wallpaper, all the customization you have made disappear.
While this is great in theory, as it allows users to have multiple Lock Screens with different widgets and Lock Screen controls, it’s a nightmare for people like me who love to change the Lock Screen wallpaper regularly.
Here’s how I like my Lock Screen. The top shows my upcoming reminder. I like an extra bold clock with a rounded font, so I have that. Below the clock, I have the Weather widget and the PocketCasts widget.
Finally, since I have the iPhone 16 Pro, which comes with Camera Control that lets me launch the camera, I have replaced the camera icon with the Lightroom app. It lets me capture my work photos directly into the Lightroom app, so my Photos library only contains my personal photos.
I am satisfied with my setup, but look what happens when I change the wallpaper. All my customizations are reset to default. It means every time I switch to a new wallpaper, I have to make all the changes again.
I like to change my iPhone wallpaper at least once a week, and thanks to this feature, the process has become a big hassle, so much so that I have stopped using Lock Screen customization altogether.
Apple needs to fix this and let us create a default Lock Screen setup that applies to all new wallpapers we add. The current situation has made the iPhone Lock Screen customization pointless or a time-wasting endeavor for all wallpaper enthusiasts.
