Ulysses 30 Update Adds Sketching, PDF Annotations, and more
Ulysses, one of the most popular writing apps for Mac, has released a new version 30 update that introduces several new features. The headlining feature is the support for adding sketches to text and support for Apple Pencil. The app now also supports annotation for images and PDFs. You can also now copy & paste tables from Excel, Numbers, and Notes. If you remember, The version 27 update in Ulysses added support for tables, which made it easier for users to create tables inside Ulysses.

Tables have always been a big issue in markdown writing apps, and this new update makes handling tables even easier. We tried copying and pasting tables from a Numbers document in Ulysses, and it worked flawlessly. You can see the result in the screenshot below.
While the tables feature is awesome, what surprised us the most was the support sketches and drawings. Now you can create sketches using your finger on your iPhone or Apple Pencil on your iPad to add drawings to your text. The support for sketches won’t replace your handwritten note-taking apps anytime soon, but it will add an extra dimension to your writing in Ulysses.
Other than these main features, Ulysses has added several new features. You can read the full changelog below:
- You can now set colors for projects.
- You can now also color the groups in Extras.
- We have re-enabled Favorites in projects (heard ya).
- You can now add Markup to captions
- You can now sort table rows by the first character of each cell (aka alphabetically).
- We have added a couple of alternative app icons to choose from (late, we know).
Like all new updates, the version 30 update also brings a couple of bug fixes and performance improvements that enhance your app experience.
You can download Ulysses from the App Store as a free trial. After the trial expires, you can unlock the app across all platforms for $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year. Ulysses is also available as a part of SetApp, which is an app subscription service giving you access to hundreds of apps for a starting price of $9.99/month.
