How to Trim Videos on iPhone
Most iPhone users don’t know that you don’t need a third-party app to trim videos on iPhone. You can do it directly from the Photos or the Files app. Here’s how to trim videos on an iPhone.
Time videos using the Photos app
If the video is saved in your Photos library, you can use the edit functionality to trim videos on your iPhone.
1. Launch the Photos app and open the video you want to edit.
2. If your iPhone is running on iOS 17 or earlier version, tap the Edit button in the top-right corner.
3. If you have updated to iOS 18, you won’t see the Edit button. Instead, you will see a three-line button at the bottom. Tap it to access the editing options.
4. Notice the two drag handles at the ends of the clip. You can use them to trim the clip to any length you want. You can play the clip before saving it to ensure perfect trim.
5. Once you are happy with the selection, tap the Done button in the top-right corner.
6. Choose the first option to trim and save the clip and the second option if you want to save the trimmed version as a new clip while preserving the original one.
Trim video clips on iPhone using Files app
If the video is saved in the Files app, you can use this method to trim it.
1. Launch the Files app and locate the video you want to trim.
2. Long-press on the video to get the contextual menu and tap on the Quick Actions option.
3. Now tap the Trim option.
4. Alternatively, tap the clip to open it and hit the Trim button in the bottom-right corner.
5. Use the drag handles to trim the clip to your desired length and hit the Done button.
6. Tap the Save as New Clip button to save the trimmed clip.
